Choose the right location
Plan the machine's final position before ordering. The right location needs room for the machine, the material, the operator, and future maintenance.
1. Measure the complete setup
Use the exact model's assembled dimensions and installation instructions. Include stands, rails, extension tables, guards, collection hoses, and any other equipment that will be fitted. Confirm anything missing from the listing before committing to a layout.
2. Allow room to work
Map the path of your longest and widest workpieces through the operation. Allow for infeed and outfeed support, table or head movement, door opening, and access to controls. Keep walkways, exits, and access to electrical equipment clear. Follow the clearances in the machine's manual rather than using a single spacing rule for every machine.
3. Check the floor and environment
Review the manufacturer's requirements for the floor, leveling, anchoring, and operating environment. Include the machine, accessories, and expected workpiece loads when arranging a floor assessment. If floor capacity is uncertain, have it assessed by a qualified professional before installation. Confirm protection from moisture and the lighting and ventilation needed for the work.
4. Plan utilities and extraction
Confirm the exact voltage, phase, factory wiring, and installation requirements with the model's documentation. Have a qualified electrician assess your electrical supply and any installation work. Plan dust collection, chip handling, coolant, compressed air, or other services only where the machine requires them. Keep hoses and cables out of walking and material paths.
5. Measure the route into the shop
Record door and gate openings, overhead clearance, turns, slopes, thresholds, stairs, and the narrowest point from the unloading area to the final position. Compare the route with confirmed packed dimensions and the handling equipment needed. Do not assume a machine can be dismantled to fit; confirm any disassembly and lifting arrangements in advance.
Before you order
- Sketch the machine footprint and full operating area.
- Record access measurements and any steps, slopes, or tight turns.
- Confirm floor, electrical, and extraction requirements.
- Arrange suitable unloading and movement to the final location.
