Machine buying guide
Choose equipment around the work you want to do, the material you use, and the space available in your shop. Use this guide to build a shortlist, then confirm the exact model and configuration before ordering.
Choosing a bandsaw · Comparing specifications · Choose the right location · Plan to receive your machine
Start with your projects and material
Write down the operations you need, your largest typical workpiece, and how often you expect to use the machine. Check that the model is intended for your material and operation. Woodworking and metalworking machines can require different speeds, tooling, workholding, and extraction.
Choose the right bandsaw
- Match capacity to your stock. Compare throat depth for wide work and cutting height for tall stock or resawing. Nominal wheel size alone does not describe both capacities.
- Match the cutting arrangement. Vertical saws support different work than horizontal metal-cutting saws. For horizontal saws, compare round and rectangular capacities at the angles you need.
- Check blades and speeds. Review the supported blade length, width range, speed settings, and intended materials. Do not assume a woodworking saw can cut metal.
- Review everyday adjustments. Compare blade guides, tension adjustment, fence, table tilt, and work support. Confirm which accessories are included with the exact SKU.
Compare other machines by the work they need to handle
- Table saws: compare rip capacity, cut depth, fence and rail package, blade requirements, and working room for sheet goods.
- Jointers and planers: compare working width, thickness capacity, bed support, cutterhead configuration, and extraction requirements.
- Lathes and mills: compare the work envelope, speed range, tooling and workholding compatibility, and the exact electrical configuration.
- Forming and fabrication equipment: check capacity for your specific material, thickness, and operation. A capacity rating for one material does not automatically apply to another.
Read the specifications for the exact model
Open the product listing and review its Specifications and downloadable manual. Match the SKU and selected variant; similar model names can have different motors, voltages, phases, fences, or included equipment.
- Power: confirm voltage, phase, factory wiring, and the installation requirements in the manual. Supported voltage options do not necessarily describe how the machine ships. Have a qualified electrician assess your supply and any changes.
- Space: compare assembled dimensions and operating clearances, including material travel, service access, and extraction connections.
- Shipment: confirm packed dimensions and shipping weight separately from machine net weight.
- Complete setup: list the required tooling, workholding, extraction, and accessories, and distinguish included items from optional purchases.
- Support: review the model-specific warranty and manual before purchase.
Make the final checks
- Choose the right location and measure the full access route.
- Plan receiving and unloading before the shipment is arranged.
- Confirm any missing or conflicting specifications with us before ordering. Include the SKU and the question you need answered.
